Cerebral Palsy is “a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. CP is the most common motor disability in childhood.”

Types
- Spastic: Muscles are stiff and tight.
- Dyskinetic: Characterized by involuntary movements such as dystonia, athetosis and/or chorea.
- Ataxic: Shaky movements. Affects balance and sense of positioning in space.
- Mixed Types: Two or more types of CP present.

In Mexico, the prevalence of disability is at 6%. CP is a physical disability which affects movement and posture. Approximately 17 million worldwide live with CP.
According to the CDC, the prevalence of CP is 1.5 to 4 per 1,000 live births.
